We sat down with Maria Vargas-Guzman, LA-based celebrity makeup artist and a clean beauty enthusiast. She has done make-up on pretty much every face you see on E! as well as Eva Mendez, Jessica Alba, Monica Rose, Kelly Wearstler and Chanel Iman just to name a few.
WHAT DOES BEAUTY MEAN TO YOU?
Beauty means confidence and kindness. To me beauty goes beyond just looks. It’s how you make others feel.
WHAT HAS BEEN THE HIGHLIGHT OF YOUR CAREER SO FAR?
I never imagined I could make a career let alone make a living doing makeup! So every time I get booked on a job I’m so grateful but seeing my work in a magazine or on tv is always a highlight!

YET MODERN. HOW DO YOU ACHIEVE THAT?
Thank you so much! I have a minimalist approach to makeup. Skin is always my main focus, minimal powder, cream blushes and cream highlights are my go-tos. I don’t try to push trends on everyone I work with. I’ve learned to edit myself over the years.
WHAT IS YOUR FAVOURITE SANN
LIP SERUM AND WHY?
For personal use, SANN Lip Serum in “Bare.” I still have to wear a mask on most jobs so it’s nice having that clear, instant hydration. For clients, it’s the SANN lip serum in “Sunset.” That peachy copper tone tint looks good on everyone! I’ll do a brown lip liner, throw on Sunset and done. It gives enough pigment to be a lipstick and enough shine to be a gloss but keeps your lips hydrated so that’s a win!
WHO LEFT YOU FEELING STARSTUCK?
Catt Sadler! My client of over 10yrs. I was a huge fan of her show The Daily 10 back in the day so when I assisted her makeup artist at the time and met her I was so nervous and star struck. I always tell her this story. She knows I’m her biggest fan.
